Jigsaw Foundation helps fund the Richmond Street Community Centre

Jigsaw Foundation has awarded Richmond Street Community Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne £522.29 to help promote their project. The funding will also provide equipment for their coffee mornings, Thai Chi classes and lunch club sessions, including a large tea urn for making copious amounts of tea and coffee.

The Richmond Street Community Centre has become part of the Places of Welcome network – a growing network of local community groups who provide places where people can feel safe and connect with others. The centre, staffed by volunteers,  is open to everyone, regardless of their circumstances or situation. It offers a place where people can engage with others while they enjoy free refreshments. Every week, there is also useful local information available.

The project aims to reach as many isolated people as possible, particularly at the Crowhill estate in Tameside which has 560 of our tenancies. Our Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Linda Whyatt, from the foundation team, has worked with the centre from the beginning. She will monitor the project to ensure it meets its targets.

By accessing the project, local people can embark on a more fulfilling life in and around their home. For more information on the activities the group host, please contact the Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Carolyn Alston.
