Last week, around 30 residents in the Midlands sang to their hearts content for a special 10-year anniversary celebrating the Jigsaw Midlands Singers club.
In 2014, Gedling Borough Council advertised for local people to perform in a Great War Remembrance event and a group of Jigsaw residents came together to participate.
This was such a success that the singers continued to meet with their tutor on a fortnightly basis and have since performed at a range of events and venues over the years, with the group becoming an important way of making friends, reducing social isolation and offering mutual support for members.
A special celebration for the Jigsaw Midlands Singers club was organised by Martin Curtis, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, on Wednesday 31 July at Moreland Court, our Over 55’s scheme, to honour 10 years of the group and remember residents who have passed.
Residents sang their favourite songs spanning different decades, from ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square’ by Vera Lynn, to ‘On Top of the World’ by The Carpenters. They also enjoyed a tasty afternoon tea courtesy of café staff at the St George’s Centre in Netherfield.
