The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, the Rt Hon Mel Stride MP, together with MP for Gedling, Tom Randall, paid a visit to our Jigsaw Midlands Civic Centre office on 20 October.
The Cabinet Minster was there to learn more about our collaborative approach with the DWP to support residents. Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Martin Curtis, shared the extensive work we do to help improve our local communities and ensure residents receive advice and guidance.
This included information about our dedicated Jigsaw Employment Team which has already seen 45 people access employment support since April 2023 through its employment and skills training.
Martin also highlighted our attendance at several careers fairs across Nottinghamshire in coordination with DWP as well as attending Gedling Council’s Challenge Poverty event to support residents through the cost of living crisis.
They met with Michael Howard, our former Neighbourhood Engagement Assistant who joined Jigsaw as part of the Government’s Kickstart programme for young people. Michael completed a comprehensive training programme during his six months at Jigsaw and is now set to follow his passion and take part in a gaming course.
Mel Stride said: “My impressions here today have been fantastic; the offers provided by Jigsaw Homes are really helping people into work, despite the barriers they may face.”
