Memory Café Members Bury Time Capsule

Members of the Netherfield Memory Café in Nottinghamshire saved some of their current memories for the future as they buried a time capsule.

The time capsules were distributed to Housing for Over 55s Schemes across the Group as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and members brought along items including pictures, models and perfume bottles.

They buried the capsule in the grounds of the St George’s Centre, which hosts the Memory Cafe for people with early onset dementia and their carers every month, and planted a hydrangea on top.

Some members then enjoyed an organised day out at the weekly market in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire where they visited churches, the historic Anne of Cleves public house, built in 1384 and of course stocked up on the famous local pork pies.

Richard one of the Café’s oldest members grew up in Melton and his wife Jackie said: “Seeing the local primary school and nearby fields again brought back lots of fond memories for him.”
