To Infinity and Beyond: JET Delivers 100+ Qualifications in Six Months

More than 100 residents have been supported with accredited qualifications including at Infinity Initiatives CIC in Ashton.

Thanks to the Jigsaw Employment Team, 11 volunteers from the community café successfully completed Food Safety Level 2 training last week alongside eight residents in Miles Platting, eight in Cheetham Hill and eight residents from Foxhill Court in Carlton.

Nina Spann, a volunteer at the café, said: “The training was really excellent and we were all able to learn so much useful practical guidance that will help us at the café to be safe with preparing and cooking food confidently for the public who visit.”

Since January 2022, JET has worked to deliver training at a variety of locations from voluntary organisations to community groups. In the last six months alone, they have helped over 100 residents achieve a Level 2 accredited qualification.

Now, the Tameside Jigsaw Employment and Training Club has launched at the 4C Community Centre in Ashton under Lyne and offers support and employment advice to anyone aged 16 or over.

Previously known as the Jigsaw Work Club, the newly renamed service runs every week. Referrals can be made from any Jigsaw department and even from external organisations such as the DWP.

The Jigsaw Employment and Training Clubs are also open in:

  • Buttermere Community Centre, Chorley
  • St George’s Centre, Gedling , Nottingham
  • Daybrook Baptist Church, Arnold, Nottingham
  • Carlton Community Hub, Carlton, Nottingham

JET will soon be opening the service in Oldham at the Oldham Food Grocers based in the Anchor Mill Business Centre.

John McGlynn, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, said, “It is really important to be back in community venues, meeting people once again in person to help them with their journey into work.  We know this service is valued and people feel less isolated and alone when they visit and meet the team and get the right support when they need it the most.”
